Ipl 2026 Rajasthan Royals
The race for the IPL 2026 playoffs has become even more intense after Rajasthan Royals suffered a five-wicket defeat against Delhi Capitals in New Delhi on Sunday. With the tournament entering its crucial phase, every match and every point is proving vital in determining the final four teams.
Rajasthan Royals posted a competitive total of 193/8 after batting first. Their innings was powered by impressive half-centuries from Dhruv Jurel and Riyan Parag, who helped stabilize and accelerate the scoring rate. Despite the strong total, Delhi Capitals produced a solid chase.
Delhi’s response began brilliantly as Abishek Porel and KL Rahul built a commanding opening partnership that laid the perfect foundation. Later, Axar Patel’s aggressive innings provided the finishing touch as Delhi successfully chased the target with four balls remaining.
Following the result, Rajasthan Royals remain on 12 points from 12 matches, while Delhi Capitals also moved to 12 points but after playing 13 games. So far, only the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have officially secured a place in the IPL 2026 playoffs.
Rajasthan Royals’ Qualification Scenario
Rajasthan Royals still have a chance to secure a playoff berth, but their path is far from straightforward.
To stay firmly in contention, RR must win both of their remaining league matches against Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians. Victories in both fixtures would take them to 16 points after 14 matches.
However, even reaching 16 points may not guarantee qualification. If Sunrisers Hyderabad win one of their remaining matches, Chennai Super Kings win both of theirs, and Gujarat Titans lose their final game, multiple teams could finish level on 16 points. In such a situation, Net Run Rate (NRR) would become the deciding factor.
If Rajasthan manage to win only one of their remaining games, they would finish on 14 points. Under that scenario, they would require favorable outcomes elsewhere, including losses for Punjab Kings, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders. Again, if several teams finish with the same number of points, NRR could determine who advances.
Delhi Capitals’ Qualification Equation
Delhi Capitals now have a simple but challenging task ahead. They need to win their final league-stage match against Kolkata Knight Riders and then hope that other results work in their favor.
Even with a victory, Delhi’s playoff hopes will largely depend on outcomes involving rival teams. Net Run Rate could also play a major role in deciding their fate.
Riyan Parag Reflects on Rajasthan’s Defeat
After the match, Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag admitted that his side missed opportunities and failed to capitalize during key moments.
He felt RR were in a strong position after the 14th over and believed the team should have pushed for a much bigger total, somewhere around 220–230 runs. Parag also acknowledged that the bowling effort was below expectations.
Speaking about tactical decisions, he defended the choice to use Donovan Ferreira as a bowling option, explaining that the move was based on match-ups against left-handed batters. While he accepted the decision did not produce the desired result, he emphasized that it was a calculated strategy rather than a gamble.
With only a few league matches remaining, the IPL 2026 playoff race is turning into a thrilling battle where every run, wicket, and NRR calculation could make the difference between qualification and elimination.
