CSK Vs SRH Ipl match
Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad remained positive despite his side suffering a disappointing five-wicket defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 63 of the IPL 2026 season at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. The result significantly damaged CSK’s playoff ambitions while Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a place in the IPL 2026 playoffs after successfully chasing the target with six balls remaining.
Following the match, Gaikwad appreciated his team’s effort and believed Chennai stayed competitive until the closing stages of the game.

The CSK skipper felt it was an entertaining contest played on a surface that remained consistent throughout the match. He admitted that the team missed a few important opportunities and felt they could have capitalized better during key moments.
Batting first, Chennai Super Kings managed to score 180/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Dewald Brevis emerged as the top scorer with a valuable innings of 44 runs. Sanju Samson provided early momentum with a quickfire 27, while Kartik Sharma and Shivam Dube chipped in with important contributions.
Despite setting a respectable target, Chennai struggled to contain Sunrisers Hyderabad during the chase. Ishan Kishan led the way with a match-winning knock of 70, while Heinrich Klaasen played an aggressive innings of 47 that kept SRH firmly in control.
Although the loss pushed Chennai into a difficult position in the playoff race, Gaikwad expressed satisfaction with the commitment shown by the players throughout the season.
He acknowledged that injuries and the absence of key players had created challenges for the squad. Without directly making excuses, Gaikwad mentioned the limitations in team depth and hinted that CSK had to operate with a restricted group of available players. Still, he said the squad performed admirably under difficult circumstances and found several positives despite the setback.
Gaikwad also reserved special praise for Sanju Samson, recognizing his strong performances during the campaign. The captain added that every player gave maximum effort and fought hard until the very end.
He further thanked Chennai supporters for standing by the team throughout the season. Gaikwad highlighted the unwavering loyalty of CSK fans and appreciated how they continued to back the side during both successful and difficult phases.
The captain also suggested that compared to the previous season, the team showed noticeable improvement despite the challenges faced.
After this defeat, Chennai Super Kings sit in sixth position on the IPL 2026 points table with 12 points from 13 matches. Their final group-stage fixture will be against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 21.
With playoff hopes hanging by a thread, CSK now face a must-win situation while also relying on favorable results from other teams to keep their campaign alive.
